Getting a Haircut in Istanbul: A Visitor's Guide

What to expect, how much to pay and how to book a hair appointment in Istanbul as a visitor.

Paylaş

Getting a haircut in Istanbul is straightforward, and prices are generally lower than in most European cities. The main thing to sort out in advance is the appointment: walk-ins are possible in smaller shops, but popular salons in central districts fill up days ahead.

Language is rarely a problem in tourist-facing districts, but bringing a reference photo removes any doubt. Agree on the price before the service starts — this is normal practice and nobody will find it rude.

Tipping is customary but modest. Rounding up or leaving a small amount for the person who washed your hair is the usual gesture.
